Shout! Studios Expands Library with Gravitas Ventures Acquisition

Shout! Studios has acquired Gravitas Ventures in a move that deepens its multi-platform distribution capabilities and expands its content library by more than 3,300 titles. While both companies will continue operating as distinct brands with separate acquisition strategies, the deal positions Shout! to more aggressively monetize content across both linear and streaming channels.

The acquisition is especially notable for Shout!’s access to Gravitas’ expansive library of scripted, non-scripted, and sports-related films, TV, and documentaries. It’s a strategic shift driven by scale, adding breadth to Shout!’s catalog while enhancing its AVOD and TVOD offerings. Gravitas, known for titles like Mack & Rita, Vanguard, and Queen Bees, brings depth that complements Shout!’s existing imprints such as Scream Factory and Shout! Kids.

CEO Garson Foos described the acquisition as the next step in expanding Shout!’s catalogue. Backed by Oaktree Capital Management, Shout! purchased Gravitas from Anthem Sports & Entertainment. The move comes amid a tough climate for indie distributors, with Gravitas reportedly experiencing internal shake-ups, including layoff rumors, since late last year.

Importantly, this is not a merger of operations. Gravitas and Shout! will continue acquiring and distributing independently, maintaining their brand identities. But the added scale gives both parties more leverage, especially across FAST and digital storefronts where Gravitas has had consistent success.

Behind the scenes, Salem Partners advised Anthem and Gravitas, with Sheppard Mullin and Greenberg Traurig handling legal duties on opposite sides of the deal. Terms were not disclosed, but the acquisition clearly signals that Shout!, with Oaktree’s backing, is serious about using M&A to build out a more robust, future-proof media library.
